Mobile speed enforcement - Overview

Just as with fixed enforcement systems, mobile speed enforcement systems also contribute to road safety. SENSYS®'s mobile speed enforcement system, the Mobile Speed Safety System (MSSS) is very compact and versatile, containing a radar, a processing and data storage unit and a digital camera. The MSSS is non-intrusive which means that no devices are buried in the road surface. Setting up the system takes just a couple of minutes. The MSSS is therefor very cost-effective. If required, a customised configuration may be made on site via a computer. Further to a speed-check session by the roadside, the data may be transferred to a memory stick or laptop for further-processing in an office.

The MSSS is a true point-and-shoot device, and after a couple of initial test pictures can function unattended. Its operational time span is only limited by battery capacity.

Flexibility

The small size of the unit enables covert operation from a patrol car's dashboard or through the rear window. Tripod use or concealed use by measuring from within suitable roadside fixtures are also easy to achieve.

The MSSS is appreciated by traffic officers for its light-weight, easy set-up and flexibility.

Flexible enforcement

All these characteristics render the MSSS a perfect tool for flexible speed enforcement as a response to changing traffic behaviour.

It has been observed that a tendency for over-speeding can be halted when the applicable speed is more strongly enforced during a certain period of time. A mobile speed enforcement system enables this to be done randomly with respect to location on a specific road and time of day.
