Fixed speed enforcement - Overview

Most governments all over the world prioritise the improvement of road safety. One of the available tools for influencing the behaviour of road-users is traffic law enforcement – and in particular speed enforcement.

SENSYS®'s fixed speed enforcement system, the Speed Safety System (SSS), is based on the RS240 multi-tracking radar. This wide-beam radar unit, capable of tracking multiple vehicles simultaneously, uses a radar lobe that oversees several lanes up to 150 meters deep. Vehicles moving within the radar lobe are tracked and their movements analysed. Speed is determined through Doppler and checked by distance over time. At the defined report line a picture is taken should there be a speed violation. The fixed enforcement system is non-intrusive which means that no devices are buried in the road surface.

How it works

Sweden's new Life Saver

Numerous reports demonstrate that applying speed enforcement contributes to road safety. The number of casualties is reduced.

In Sweden the non-intrusive fixed speed enforcement system, the Speed Safety System (SSS), has been introduced to the public as the new Life Saver, and where statistics also show a very positive effect on road safety.

With more than 1000 network connected speed enforcement systems installed in Sweden, and SSS installations in 7 other countries, Sensys is a reliable partner for traffic safety and traffic informatics within the motor vehicle sector.
